World Alzheimer’s Day: Supporting People with Dementia Through Care at Home

Every year on 21 September, World Alzheimer’s Day provides an opportunity to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, challenge stigma and highlight the support available to people living with the condition and their families.
As part of World Alzheimer’s Month 2026, Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) is focusing on the importance of earlier diagnosis under the theme, “The Earlier You Know, The More You Can Do: A Dementia Diagnosis Matters.” An earlier diagnosis can help people and their families access appropriate treatment, care and support, while giving them more opportunity to plan for the future.
Dementia care that puts the individual first
Dementia can impact every aspect of daily life, and care needs are unique to each individual. At Kensa Health, we provide flexible, personalised support that adapts as needs change, whether that means companionship, help with routines, or specialist care for those with additional health conditions.
Our goal is to help people stay in familiar surroundings, maintaining routines and connections for as long as possible. We offer a full range of home-based services, including live-in care, personal care, and respite, delivered by professionals who understand the complexities of dementia and related conditions such as Parkinson's or multiple sclerosis.
Key facts:
- Evidence suggests that when people with dementia and their families are well prepared and supported, feelings of shock, anger and grief are balanced by a sense of reassurance and empowerment.
- Alongside drug treatments and medical supports, social support, inclusive dementia friendly design, social activities, reminiscence sessions, rehabilitation and respite are all vital to maximise the independence of people living with dementia and their carers.
More than care: supporting families too
When someone develops dementia, the impact can extend beyond the individual. Families and friends may take on new responsibilities, from helping with everyday activities to supporting changing care needs.
We also provide respite care, allowing family members to take a break while ensuring their loved one continues to receive compassionate, professional support. Whether care is needed for a short period or as part of a longer-term plan, we aim to support both the individual and the people around them.
